19th August 2006 - Melrose
Both Juvenile bands dodged the showers at the Melrose contest with the Novice band achieving 3rd place in their Novice competition and 11th in the Juvenile contest. The Juvenile band had another really good day; with Ian Bowden deputising as P/M for Donald MacLeod they were placed 4th in the Grade 3 competition and 3rd in Grade 2 with particularly strong results from the piping judges.

Some more pictures have been added from recent events. Ckeck them out in the Gallery

All bands now look forward to the final Cowal Championship in Dunoon on the 26th August.

12th August 2006 - World Championship Update
All bands performed exceptionally well at the Worlds in Glasgow Green on the 12th August. The Novice Juvenile band kept up their good run of form in qualifying for the N/J final. Their preparations for the final were not helped by the fact that their performance clashed with the Grade 1 band's MSR in the G1 final so P/M Alvis Kerr was unable to lead the band on to the final. The band managed to perform reasonably well in the final despite this challenge. Thanks should go to P/M Colin MacCluckie of the Bo'ness Pipe Band who willingly agreed to help in Alvis's absence

The Juvenile band maintained their solid season with a really good performance and 4th place overall in a tight contest. The Grade 1 band topped off the day for the organisation with a great 5th place in the Grade 1 competition. Having played well for most of the season without the results to show for the good performances, the 5th prize has helped make up for the earlier disappointments.

The BBC TV cameras recorded the event for a TV special programme which is due to be broadcast on BBC Scotland Sunday 3rd September. Make sure you catch it!

A solid start to the season from all the bands, particularly both Juvenile bands. Special mention should also go to Alan Morton who has stepped up to the adult section of the drum major competition this year. As you can see, he has made his mark early on in his adult career!

The season also saw the Juvenile Band appear with their new uniforms, part of the organisations efforts to update all the band's uniforms. We hope to have some pictures of the Juveniles on the site soon.

22nd April 2006 - Branch Minis/Solos
The branch mini band and solo competition at Peebles turned out to be another successful outing for many Boghall bandsfolk. Both Juvenile Bands did extremely well in their respective competitions with the Novice Band achieving strong 2nd and 3rd places in their grade. The Juvenile band had a great day with one mini band winning their grade and another placing 4th. Great early season promise from both bands.

Many solo prizes were also won:

  • Graham Drummond, 2nd under 14 MSR piping
  • Graham Drummond, 3rd under 18 MSR piping
  • Donald Macleod, 2nd open MSR piping
  • Gavin Orr, 3rd under 14 MSR drumming
  • Billy Archibald, 4th under 14 MSR drumming
  • Craig Brown, 2nd under 18 MSR drumming

11th February 2006
Boghall's young pipers had another very successful day at the solos, this time at the Junior Piping Championships at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow.

Grade 1 piper Emma Buchan won both the "A" Piobaireachd and March Strathspey and Reel events.

Juvenile pipers Graham Drummond and Ewan Sturrock were successful in the "B" events. Graham won the "B" Strathspey and Reel, was 2nd in the "B" March and 3rd in the "B" Piobaireachd while Ewan came in 3rd in the Piobaireachd.

The success of these young members of the band bodes well for Boghall in the future

Celtic Connections 2006

Pipers from the Grade 1 band recently took part in the piping concert at this year's Celtic Connections festival at the Royal concert Hall in Glasgow. Keeping their performances as simple and straightforward as possible, they performed without accompaniment as a quartette and as a group of nine pipers at the event.

This gave good contrast to the other bands involved who were accompanied by a wide variety of other instruments.

In addition, P/S Donald McLeod, Robert Gray performed a couple of sets on the small pipes and border pipes and were accompanied by Ross Harvey on congas. This was extremely well received by the audience. particularly their set of tunes written by, and performed in memory of the late Gordon Duncan.

A few pictures of the event can be found in the gallery.
