Edinburgh to Glasgow Cycle

Sunday 3rd June, Haymarket Station to Glasgow Green

P/M Ian Bowden arranged a sponsored cycle for players, members and friends of the band which was successfully completed on Sunday 3rd June. The cycle was a great success and took place from Glasgow to Edinburgh following Sustrans route number 754. We have already raised over £2500 from the event, but we are still accepting donations. Wine tasting night

Saturday 9th June, Mercat Hotel – Haymarket, Edinburgh

Boghall and Bathgate began their latest fundraising venture with the launch of brand new Wine Club at a fantastic wine tasting event at the Mercat Bar, an award winning gastropub in Edinburgh’s West End. The event was hosted by Grade 1 snare drummer and Vice President, Alan Irvine who has extensive experience in the wine industry and catered fantastically for the wide range of knowledge amongst the 40 guests. Each guest was treated to six different wines with a range of specifically chosen foods allowing the guests to understand how different wines can compliment specific foods. Alan also taught the guests how to appraise each wine and by the end of the evening he had successfully proved that expensive wines taste better!

Due to the overwhelming success of this event, Alan is now planning to run a further event in October. Undoubtedly a lot of those who attended on Friday will be returning, but we hope to see lots of new faces there too. This event also marked the launch of our new wine club. Thanks to Alan’s contacts within the wine trade, he has established an excellent deal where we can purchase a wide range of quality wines at prices cheaper than most retailers whilst also ensuring that the band receives a profit from every bottle sold. In addition, we have also been offered an excellent buy 12 get one free deal - thanks Alan!

Alan plans to place an order every month on behalf of the band and is happy to offer guidance and tips to anyone interested in placing an order. There is no minimum order and no obligation to order on a monthly basis. Similarly we are more than happy to accommodate orders from outwith the band. Ceilidh for Momentum Scotland

Sunday 26th August, Kaim Park Hotel

For the third year in a row, members of all three bands had a fantastic day at a fundraising ceilidh the day after the Cowal Championships in memory of our former snare drummer, Neil Cranston. The event took place at the Kaim Park Hotel and was a great success with the band playing a few tunes and a total of 10 ceilidh bands from all over Scotland also entertaining. The drum last played by Neil was also presented to his family on behalf of Andante Percussion and everyone at the band.


In the last two years, both previous events had raised a fantastic amount of money for charity and this year was no exception with a grand total of £1924 being raised - well done everyone involved! The chosen charity this year was Momentum Scotland, but Neil’s family also very kindly decided to donate some of the funds raised to the band as well. Overall, this event has been a great success for last three years and we hope to see it continue in the years to come!

Second Wine Night

Following on from the hugely successful wine night held by Alan Irvine at the Mercat Hotel in June, a further wine tasting night was held on Saturday 6th October at the Kaim Park Hotel in Bathgate on 6th October. This provided another opportunity for band members and friends to sample some fantastic wines in great company with many wines also being purchased with all profits going to band funds.


Wine Night - Take 3!

Following on from the last 2 hugely successful wine nights held by Alan Irvine at the Mercat Hotel in June and the Kaim Park Hotel in October, a further opportunity to attend an excellent wine tasting night has been arranged for Saturday 2nd February 2013. This time we will be returning to the Mercat Hotel in Edinburgh again which was a fantastic venue last time round. There will again be the opportunity to sample a number of fine wines, accompanied by specifically chosen foods to help you understand which wines compliment which food types. There will also be the opportunity to purchase wines at a discounted rate, with profits going into the band funds. Finally, this event is also on the same day as the first weekend in the 6 Nations - why not come along and celebrate after Scotland have hopefully beaten England at Twickenham!

Piping in the Pentlands!

Piping in the Pentlands - Sunday 19th May

A party of 14 took part in the band’s main fundraising event of the year: four Novice Juvenile pipers (Abbie Meehan, Chloe Easton, Calum Davidson and Andrew Hutton) and three G1 pipers (Grant Walker, Matthew Keith and Ian Bowden) were joined by parents and supporters (Sonia Easton, Pam and Joe Meehan, Duncan Hutton, Heather Cranston, Cody Cranston, Kenny Davidson and Malcolm Swan.) In less than ideal, foggy conditions the group completed the circuit covering the 7 mile distance and 650m height gain in just under 4 hours. This was a tremendous effort by all and they have already raised a good amount of sponsorship - however, it is still not too late to show your support by sponsoring one of the young pipers who took part via our Virgin Money Giving site

For those who have already contributed thank you very much.  Your support will go a long way to securing the future of our organisation.

Latest wine night!

Following on from our last wine night held by Alan Irvine in February, we are delighted to be hosting another wine tasting on Saturday 22nd June 2013. This will again be hosted at the Mercat Hotel in Edinburgh which was a fantastic venue last time round. This night will be another opportunity to sample a number of different fine wines, accompanied by specifically chosen foods . There will also be the opportunity to purchase some excellent wines at a discounted rate, with profits going into the band funds.

The Boggie’s Boogie Night!

As our next fundraising event we are hosting an 80’s disco on Saturday 15th March at the Seafield Community Centre. This will also include a game of Irish Bingo and a raffle with the chance to win a special labelled whisky, “The Famous Boghall!”

Tickets are available from Alan Irvine for only £10 and kids are more than welcome too - we will accept donations on the door for them rather than the full £10 fee for the adults. There is a cash prize to be won for the best fancy dress so get your thinking caps on!

Fundraising Ceilidh for Momentum!

Saturday 7th June, Kaim Park Hotel

Saturday 7th June will see us host our annual fundraising ceilidh in memory of our late side drummer, Neil Cranston. In previous years we have hosted this event at the end of the pipe band season but this year we have brought the event forward to celebrate what would have been Neil’s 50th birthday weekend. We are sure that if Neil was still with us this would have been a great weekend of celebrating, so let’s make sure this event does him proud!

If the last few years are anything to go by this should be a great night and will no doubt raise a great sum for the charity, Momentum. Tickets are available from Alan Irvine and Heather Cranston at only £5 for adults or a donation for children. France v Australia Wine Night!

The next event follows on from our first foray to the Innis and Gunn HQ in Edinburgh which proved to be a wonderful, ornate and prime location for the Boghall and Bathgate wine night.

The next tasting is on 12th September 2014 and we have now adopted a new format for ticketing this event. Purchasing tickets through this website secures your ticket and helps us organise who is attending. All payments are also processed online in advance, which saves attendees having to bring cash on the day. The link to purchase tickets is below:

With a max of 30 places available these will fill up quickly so be quick to secure your place. Tickets can be purchased until 10pm on Wednesday 10th September to allow us to confirm numbers for wine and food. The event will be based on France v Australia, where you the consumer, will get to vote through 3 rounds of what rose, white then red you preferred from each region. Sitting with both wines in front of you, you are encouraged to evaluate one against the other by a guided tasting analysis. Background will be provided on the wines by our very own Alan Irvine.

Food will be provided by the in house Chef and will take the format of a cold buffet. A raffle for 3 of the wines will also be held and there will be an opportunity to purchase some wines at the end. After we finish, the Innis and Gunn bar will open where a lively debate can ensue on wine, beer, pipe bands, etc. This is all to raise funds for the band and we look forward to seeing you there.
