In 1972 a group of Boghall residents met to discuss the possibilities of forming a pipe band with in the area. The people who met at that time included:
- Mr Bob Austin, tha band's 1st President
- Mr James Galloway - Local butchery manager
- Mrs Minnie Waddell
|
Other members of the band committee in those early days included Mr &
Mrs J. Latta, Mr & Mrs I. MacKay, Mr & Mrs I. Reid to name a few.
The band committee advertised in the local Lothian Courier paper looking
for young boys and girls to joing the band and learn to play the bagpipes
under the guidance on P/M Bobby Allan, a former piper with Torphichen
& Bathgate Pipe Band who resided in Boghall at that time. The early
practices took place in the annex classrooms of the St Mary's Academy
in Bathgate. Sure enough, a good number of local school age children
joined the band.
After a short while P/M Bobby Allan was unable to commit the time required to take the band practices due to work committments etc. Following his resignation Kenny Watson, also a former member of Torphicen & Bathgate Pipe Band took over for a short period before P/M Bob Martin took over the leadership of the band after many years of sterling service to the Torphichen band, man and boy. Mr Clem Sim and Ian McNamee also assisted Bob in tutoring the kids.
Other people who helped the band in a variety of ways during this early period included local businessman John Hardie and publican Mr James Boyle of the Volunteer Arms in Bathgate.
The numerous committee members carried out tedious and dedicated work fund raising and looking after the young band members needs both at home and when the band was away at competitions. The fund raising and social activities helped to cement the family atmosphere which still exists in the organisation today.
