The People of Boghall and Bathgate

Ian Bowden

Ian was born and bred in West Lothian, growing up in Deans. He initially joined Torphichen and Bathgate as a learner, but soon moved to Seafield and District where he received tuition from P/M Mark Bennett. In 1996 he joined Boghall, spending two seasons with the Grade 2 band, before joining the Grade 1 band in 1998. Since then Ian has accumulated a great deal of experience and took over as P/M of the Juvenile band in 2007. Under his leadership the Juvenile band have made great progress including three major championship wins and it is interesting to note that eleven of the current Grade 1 band have played in the Juvenile band under Ian’s leadership.

Ian says that he has a number of great memories with the band, but that one of his favourites was marching down the street in Lorient in 2003 with the band absolutely buzzing on a roasting hot day. Outwith band Ian spends a lot of time working as the managing director of Pristine Tiling and has been awarded a degree in Pisartistré from the Deans Finishing School…! He also enjoys playing golf, cycling, and is a massive Hearts fan.

Ian retired from playing following the 2015 season and is now the band’s sound assistant.
